Why Do People Hate Asher Roth?

What's up world? It's been a little while I know, but I haven't had much to discuss. But I must say after reading some comments about up and coming rapper Asher Roth, I thought i'd address my views on the young fella.
I read a comment on Yahoo yesterday that said something to the effect that Asher Roth was everything that is wrong with hip hop music. Really? Asher Roth is? Not Soulja Boy, or those Stankey Legg guys? Not the dude that sings, "Do the Ricky Bobby?" What did Asher do to piss people off? He's a good lyricist, a legit artist, and he's not trying to be something he's not. He's a white kid, from the suberbs, and that's who is portraying. Sure, he did say on his twitter, that he was up at Rutgers, chillin with some Nappy Headed hoes, but he clearly was making fun of Imus' comments, and not being racist. It was just a bad joke.
People are looking at this man as if he's in Rap simply to make fun of the genre. Why? Because he's white, grew up good, and isn't talking about guns, selling crack, growing up hard, and so on? Because he said that african american rappers don't give back to the communities, or do anything to help those starving africans? Is he wrong? There are a few exceptions of course. Nelly, Jay-Z, Ludacris, and a few others do actually give back. But a lot of other rappers don't give back anything to their respective "hoods." Instead, they go out and buy the most expensive cars, these rediculous amounts of jewelry, and other things they don't really need. But Asher is what's wrong with hip hop? It's not like he's the first rapper to say the things he's saying. Plenty of black rappers have said the same message, criticizing their peers for not doing the right thing with their wealth, but since Asher is a white man saying these things, there's a problem? And this is the problem with hip hop? Asher Roth?
No. Asher is not what's wrong with hip hop. Asher is what's right with hip hop. He's apart of a new generation of rhymers who aren't afraid to be themselves, and not have to rely on a gimmick. I like to think of myself as apart of this generation as well, along with the likes of Charles Hamilton, and a few others. Real hip hop music is making a comeback. Asher Roth is apart of this, and those who think he's just an Eminem clone, or a one hit wonder probably should stop listening to to the genre right now, because you obviously lack an appreciation for the art and for those who have real talent. For those of you with open eyes and ears, check out Asher's mixtape, " The Greenhouse Effect," on the dailykush.com, and his debut album, "Asleep in the Bread Aisle." It's worth a listen. Peace to the gods!

  1. I think this post contains too many e's in the place of other vowels, but on the whole I think this post is accurate. "I Love College" and his "A Milli" freestyle sucked, but his verse on the "I'm Beaming" remix was... beautiful. "Last Man Standing" ft. Akon and "Common Knowledge" are nice too.
