Kid Cudi - Passion, Pain, & Demon Slayin Album Review

Image
Click here to watch the video review! Thank you Kid Cudi. On December 10th, 2015, I recorded a video review for Kid Cudi’s album, “Speedin Bullet to Heaven.” As a Kid Cudi fan, I rushed and bought that album, listened to it, and came across disappointed. It was not the sound that I had become accustomed to by Kid Cudi, and not what I wanted to hear, So I pretty much trashed the album in my review. As time went by, the album grew on me a little bit, but not to the point where it became completely enjoyable. It’s still his worst album in my opinion. However, this past Friday, Cudi dropped his anticipated new album, “Passion, Pain, & Demon Slayin.” And I can say that this is without a shadow of a doubt, a far better project than Speedin Bullet to Heaven. Cudi’s last album left such a bad taste in my mouth that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to risk buying the new project and get burned again. So I just streamed it on Tidal. But by the time I made it to, “By Design,” featu

I Can't Cry

I cried a lot as a kid. Whether it was from being beaten up by my brother, or the constant moving away from friends as a military child, I was fairly emotional. As I got older, that was forced out of me (see, big brother and father) in attempts to make me tougher, which, I guess worked. Unless I was in some serious physical pain, or someone died, I didn't cry much. In fact, the last time I've had a good cry, you know like, a cry from the soul, was in 2009 when my maternal grandfather passed away. I've had two daughters born since then, tore my meniscus badly, gone through a bunch of emotional struggles, no tears. It's not that I don't want to, or even feel like crying. I just feel like I can't. As I type this right now, I feel as if I need to cry. Something at the bottom of my chest just feels like it's ready to come up, but then, I just snap out of it and go on about my business. I was in the studio last weekend, and as I finished my song, "The Hurt,

My Spoiled-ness is Ruining My Overseas Experience...

I'm 31 years old, and up until about three months ago, I had lived my entire life in the United States of America. Sure, I've gone on a cruise outside of the country before, and I made a crazy trip to Tijuana back in 2004, but beyond those experiences, I'm American born and raised. When I left America in August, I was excited to be getting away because things in America seemed to be getting bad. Race tensions were rising, the presidential elections was dividing everyone, and I just wasn't really feeling the vibes as I left. However, as the time has passed, I realize that maybe leaving wasn't going to be as awesome as I expected.        Now, let's not get me wrong here. There's a lot to enjoy about Spain. I have really enjoyed the culture here and how friendly most people here are. It's been fun to travel to the different cities we've gone to here, and we've seen a lot of great stuff, even some castles! Hell, we live 10 minutes from the bea

Jay Z - Kingdom Come 10 Year Anniversary Review

Image
Watch the video review here! I remember it like it was yesterday. A young 21 year old me, fresh from Basic Military Training, and currently in Tech School, rushing into the local store, and directly to the music section for the first new Jay Z album in 3 years, Kingdom Come. I had been anticipating it all day long, and probably didn’t pay much attention in class due to the excitement. I rushed into the store, found the album, paid for it, and rushed back to my dorm room to fully indulge into it. This was 10 years ago this week, November 21st, 2006.  While I thought the album was good back then when it released, it wasn’t until this past summer that I actually appreciated the album for what it was. Kingdom Come is a more mature Jay then we had been accustomed to hearing before that point. This was businessman Jay, mid 30’s Jay, in a serious, long term relationship Jay, etc. This wasn’t the same, I’m in these streets, chasing money, cash, and hoes Jay. At age 21, while I thought it s

Solange - A Seat at the Table Review

Image
***** I’ve been listening to this album pretty consistently since it was released, and I’ve gone back and forth with the idea of writing a review for it. Not because I’m unsure of how to feel about the album, because I absolutely love it, but because it has been a few weeks, and there’s already plenty of reviews out there for it. However, I’ve finally decided that I’m going to write this, specifically to share what this album means for me. Quick backstory before I get into the album. I honestly had no idea that this album was coming out, not going to lie to you all about that. I was searching Google Play Music for new releases as I do every Friday, and stumbled across it. Solange and I are roughly the same age, and back in the day, I had a little thing for her specifically for that reason (Like, hey, we’re the same age, maybe I have a chance with her!). Don’t judge me, I was a silly teenager. Anyway, I didn’t pay much attention to the album until I went to Twitter later that day and

Majilla "Down For You" Single Review

Image
Watch the Video Review Here!      Early last week, I received an email from an individual asking to check out an artist, and he presented me with the artist's latest single for my review. I was honored to be asked to do it, because I'm not a big voice of the media, YouTube, Blogosphere, etc. So I appreciate someone watching my channel, or reading my thoughts here. So of course, I obliged.      The artist's name is Majilla, and she's an artist from Akron, Ohio. She's a very mysterious artist, as there aren't any pictures to be found of her, which shows her face or anything about her physical appearance. This is cool to me, as that makes things strictly about the music, similar to one of my favorite artists of all-time, MF DOOM. So with the appearance factor out of the way, what do we have to focus on and love about this artist? Simple, her voice. And while the song features autotune assisting her vocals, it sounds to me as if she can actually sing without i

OK, C-ya!

I came to Oklahoma the first time when I was almost six years old, back in 1991. I completed the 2nd half of Kindergarten in Lawton, before moving to Kentucky for the first time. Fast forward 15 years to December of 2006, and I'm moving back to Oklahoma, this time to Tinker AFB. I was excited and really looking forward to beginning my life as an adult here in a new place outside of my comfort zone.    That trip back in 2006 changed my life. Within two years, I was married and had my first daughter on the way.  I bought my first house, and I met some life long friends as well, some of which I consider close to family. By the time March of 2010 came around, I was on my way out of the state, never to return again...... Or so I thought.          I found out in April of 2012, after just about two years living in Aurora Colorado, and adding my 2nd daughter to my clan, that we'd be moving back to Oklahoma, and I'd be back working on Tinker AFB again. I get asked all the

Krizz Kaliko - Go Album Review

Image
Watch the Video Review here! Right from the jump here, I want to say that I like Krizz Kaliko’s music. When I first was coming across the Strange Music camp, I felt as if Kaliko was a Spliff Starr type of dude, meaning he was more of a sidekick or hype man for Tech N9ne instead of a very well talented artist himself. Once I got further into Strange Music, I realized this guy can really spit pretty much as good as anybody on the roster. But, I’ve always felt that he was similar to Cee-Lo Green. Sure, the guy can rap, and rap better than most rappers in the game. But, I’ve always felt like his singing is what would make him a star. I’ve always really like Kaliko singing more than his rapping. And on his latest album, Go, Krizz Kaliko gives us a lot more of that singing that I feel he’s so great at, and the album is better off because of it. The album starts off with an introduction from a motherly voice talking to Krizz and pretty much setting us up for what’s to come the

Rittz - Top of the Line Album Review!

Image
Watch the Video Review here! This has probably been the hardest review I’ve had to write. Upon first listen of Top of the Line, Rittz’s 3rd official album on Tech N9ne’s Strange Music record label, I said to myself, “Holy shit, this is going to be my first 5 star album review! That was amazing!” I usually try not to form too much of an opinion about a project until I’ve listened to it a few times, but after just one listen, I already knew this one was special. Every emotion that you can feel while listening to an album are present here, and that’s often not the case. Rittz even managed to have me a bit emotional at the end of the album (more on that later.) There is not a single bad song throughout this entire project. Not one! This is also very rare, especially over the course of 24 songs. But the real question I’ve been asking myself all week, and even still now is, is this album really a 5 star album? I’ve spent the past week listening to TOTL trying to co

Drake "Views" Album Review

Image
Watch the Video Review Here! Views from the 6 is the first Drake album that I don’t like as a complete album. Of his four studio albums released, and even if you wanna include his mixtape/retail release, “If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late,” this is hands down, in my opinion, Drake’s worst album. As I’ve listened to this album over and over again this past weekend, I can’t help but feel like something is missing. Which is disappointing because I was kind of excited to hear this new release. While Drake’s closest of peers in the industry (Kendrick Lamar, Wale, Big Sean, Big Krit, and J. Cole) are improving lyrically with every release, Drake took a big step back here. Let’s be clear, lyrically, Drake to me has always been better than the Young Thugs, Rich Homie Quan’s and Tyga’s of the world, but on Views, at times, he is on equal footing as those guys. The best way for me to explain it is, he sounds like he’s bored throughout this project. His bars throughout the ent

Caine Addiction Album Review

Image
Watch the video review here! So in November, I wrote an album review and filmed my first Youtube music review for Krayzie Bone’s latest album, Chasing the Devil. In that review, I spoke about a featured artist on the album, who goes by the name of Caine. I said Caine’s flow and delivery were great, but I just felt like the song he had on the album didn’t really fit on Krayzie Bone’s album. No shots at the man himself, just didn’t feel like that song should’ve been on Krayzie’s album. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, and a fan of Caine’s caught wind of my review, and criticized my opinions on the song, also making it seem as if I called the man wack. I actually wound up speaking to Caine himself, and told him I’d listen his album and give it a review. So ladies and Gentlemen, this is my review of Caine’s album, Addiction. Before I say anything else about the album, I want to say first, that Caine definitely has skills on the mic. As I’ve said before, the man has a grea

Boogie B "Just Drop The Album," Review!

Image
Video Review of the album! Boogie B is a rapper/producer coming out of Murrieta, California, releasing his debut album. Over the years, I’ve seen and heard numerous songs from Boogie, and I thought they were either really good, really funny, or both. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with Boogie B, as he produced a song for me called, “Sneaker Head In Training.” For the past year or so, Boogie had been hyping the release of this album, at the time referred to as, “The Fresh Prince of the I.E. (which is a nod to his hometown),” complete with the Fresh Prince of Bel Air attire.  After countless delays, it has finally been released with a new title, “Just Drop The Album.” After all of the delays and build up of this project, does Boogie live up to his own hype? I say yes. I don’t particularly like to listen to a bunch of today’s dance style of rap music, and this is the type of music present throughout this entire project. With that being said, it is done so well with good s

Krayzie Bone Chasing The Devil Review

Image
Krayzie Bone Chasing the Devil Review Chasing the Devil is the 4th official solo from Cleveland native, and Bone Thugs frontman, Krayzie Bone. The title of this album, Chasing the Devil, represents how people chase after money, fame, material things, women, sex, etc instead of focusing on the things that truly matter, and improving themselves. At least that’s what I gathered from the themes of each song, and the cover artwork for the album. It’s a very deep album, and I think Krayzie gets the point across throughout the album. After about a 10 year wait for this album, I’d say after a few good listens, it was worth the wait. The album starts off, after an intro, with what is easily my favorite song on the album, “Hold On To Ya Soul.” This is the kind of epic feeling that this album needed to open with. When you wait for one of your favorite artists to drop a much anticipated album, this is the type of song you want to open it. Everything about this song is strong, from the beat,
