Majilla "Down For You" Single Review

Watch the Video Review Here!

Early last week, I received an email from an individual asking to check out an artist, and he presented me with the artist's latest single for my review. I was honored to be asked to do it, because I'm not a big voice of the media, YouTube, Blogosphere, etc. So I appreciate someone watching my channel, or reading my thoughts here. So of course, I obliged.
The artist's name is Majilla, and she's an artist from Akron, Ohio. She's a very mysterious artist, as there aren't any pictures to be found of her, which shows her face or anything about her physical appearance. This is cool to me, as that makes things strictly about the music, similar to one of my favorite artists of all-time, MF DOOM. So with the appearance factor out of the way, what do we have to focus on and love about this artist? Simple, her voice. And while the song features autotune assisting her vocals, it sounds to me as if she can actually sing without it.
Let's speak for a second about the Autotune. The reason I don't like it in it's modern day use, is because most people who use it aren't talented and really need the vocal assistance. And even with the assistance, it still sounds absolutely horrible. There are artists such as T-Pain, Bryson Tiller, and even Kanye West at times, who I feel use the Autotune correctly and make it enjoyable to hear, as it just blends in with the music. With all that being said, I'd like to add Majilla's sound into the later discussion. While she uses the autotune, it doesn't sound annoying, it doesn't sound horrible at all, and after the initial moments of hearing it, to me, it fades away into the background music, which is awesome. I truly believe that Majilla can sing without it, if necessary and hope that in the future she does so.
As for the song itself, it has a very similar, Trap Soul, Bryson Tiller sound to it. This is a song that I could easily hear in the middle of his album. This isn't a knock on her or the sound she chose to go with, it's actually more of a compliment. That sound is great and is very popular in music these days. This song, with the right promotion, could easily be played on the radio. At least in my opinion. It is a love song, basically with Majilla describing how she feels for her love interest. She describes how good the sex they have is, how good they treat each other, and how she'd always be down for that person. It's a great story, and one that I feel that anyone could relate to, not to mention that the story is told well.
In the end, I would definitely recommend this song to listen to. Very nice beat with a great story told to the rhythm. If you're interested, you can make sure to find her on Soundcloud, YouTube, and Facebook. Hopefully, we'll hear more from her in the future, in the sense of a full length album. Anyway, thanks for reading if you're here. If you enjoyed this, give it a like, and share it, and I'll holler at you all in the next review. Peace.
